At Premier Swim Academy we center ourselves on passionately creating a safer experience in and around the water. It is a mission statement that gets us excited to get up in the morning. Water safety is a key set of life skills that we are not only happy to live out and enforce, but we are excited to teach. This set of skills follows us for the rest of our lives and has the potential to save and make an impact on someone else’s. There number of ways Premier Swim Academy keeps the community safe, informed, and aware includes swim lessons, trained staff, and health and safety classes.
Bringing awareness and educating the community on key safety topics is a mission we accomplish, in part, through formal swim lessons. Swimming and water safety skills can be taught at almost any age, and they last for life. A report entitled The Major Causes of Death in Children and Adolescents in the United States, states that among children 1 to 4 years of age drowning was the most common cause of death, followed by congenital abnormalities and motor vehicle crashes. At Premier, we exist to change such findings and statistics. While another study completed in 2020 found that the risk of drowning in children ages 1-4 was reduced by 88% with formal swim lessons, while an additional concluded that of drowning incidents in Children ages 1-4, most happened in home swimming pools. Swimming lessons teach not only the basics of how to swim, float and survive, but also basic pool and water safety that prevents emergencies from taking place in the first place. More than half of all drowning deaths are children ages 0-4, most of which happen in pools.
On the other hand, children ages 5-17 are more likely to drown in an open body of water. The risk of drowning in natural water, such as lakes, rivers, and oceans, increases with age. Premier Swim Academy also offers Adult Swim Lessons, because it is never too late to learn! Even with swim lesson experience, it is still imperative to always have a lifeguard on duty or trained supervision when in open or closed bodies of water, no matter what age. Remember, bodies of water also include pet’s water bowls, cereal bowls, bathtubs, and puddles. We understand this supervision is critical, so that’s why we have our staff get trained on CPR/AED and First Aid.
Another way Premier Swim Academy passionately creates a safe experience in and around the water are with our Health and Safety courses. We teach Lifeguard Certification and Lifeguard Recertification classes for those not afraid to get their feet wet. A swim test is conducted at the beginning of the course to ensure all participants have the physical capabilities that are required as an American Red Cross certified Lifeguard. Other safety courses we teach are socially distant Adult and Pediatric CPR/AED and First Aid courses in which participants gain the knowledge, skills and confidence to help in a variety of emergencies. These courses teach what is takes to help others while keeping yourself and those around you safe by properly utilizing Personal Protective Equipment and understanding the legal protection and principles behind California’s Good Samaritan Laws.
Premier Swim Academy hires motivated Lifeguards, instructors, and admins year-round, so it is never too late to apply. All of our classes consist of an in-person portion in which the participant has time with our trained and certified instructors to ensure the skills are being performed correctly, as well as to answer any questions and clarify concepts.
